Have you been trying to figure out how to make your content rank higher on Google? Does it seem like it’s more challenging than ever to create the sort of content that’s actually going to get people’s attention? Every day, the online marketplace becomes more crowded, more competitive. As such, you don’t just have to create great content essentially daily, but you have to do so better than before. Our digital marketing agency in Los Angeles can help our clients with that, sure, but these are also some tips I can share with you.

Of course, with all content, the one question to ask yourself is: “does this provide value?” So long as it does, you’ve got the core of what great content can be. If you ever find yourself stumped by that question, or even taking a moment to think it over, then you aren’t ready to write or film just yet. Instead, you should go back, find the value, and then build out from there.

See What Google Doesn’t Want

I’m writing this article largely because, in a recent company meeting, we started discussing Google’s new spam update. It’s great to see Google doing this for many reasons, not the least of which is the rise of AI content. As such, there’s more spam out there and, frankly, it’s worse than ever before.

Google, as I’ve learned over the years, tends to be upfront when it comes to what they’re looking for. They don’t play coy, they don’t speak obliquely or anything similar. They tell you exactly what they want and what they don’t.

For example, look at what they said in their spam update about “keyword stuffing,” and how you could tell it was of low quality, because it went about “repeating the same words or phrases so often that it sounds unnatural. For example:

‘Unlimited app store credit. There are so many sites that claim to offer app store credit for $0 but they’re all fake and always mess up with users looking for unlimited app store credits. You can get limitless credits for app store right here on this website. Visit our unlimited app store credit page and get it today.”

If you’re like me, you’ve come across a lot of content like that online. You can see, though, that it doesn’t provide value. It doesn’t… do anything. It just puts a lot of words together, many of which are keywords.

It may sound obvious, but it’s true: don’t ever, ever let your content look anything like that. Now, you might say “of course I won’t,” right, you won’t, but AI writing can get very close to that very quickly.

Write the Opposite

Instead, what you want to do is the opposite of that. Provide real value. Make sure that, in everything you write, you give something to the person who’s reading it.

You don’t have to “reinvent the wheel,” so to speak. Just give the reader (or watcher) something that they can actually use. For example, if you’re in a pinch, just give them something that you’re doing that day.

If you’re a restaurant, you can show them behind the scenes, how the daily special is made, etc. If you run a rehab facility, talk about a recent group activity, maybe a new group you’re offering, etc. Should you create content for a digital marketing agency, maybe you write about something that came up in a meeting recently.

The possibilities are endless. You’re an expert at your job, a genuine, bonafide professional. Just give us a bit of that and you’ll be able to create essentially endless content.
