What Should (and Should Not) Be Included in SEO Services Packages

Have you been looking at SEO services packages for your business and aren’t sure exactly what you would want in them? Are you in the process of researching SEO and want to be absolutely certain that the services you need are the right ones for your company? All too often, companies that offer “SEO packages” include what’s easy or inexpensive for them to include and not what would help your business. That’s the exact opposite of what we do.

While these packages are tailored to the clients’ exact, specific needs, there are some services that are, in one way or another, included in each. Now, those services are themselves customized for the client and what they need at the time. 

 

By that same token, there are some things which you should never, ever want to include in an SEO package.

 

Start With an Audit 

 

You should only trust an SEO company that’s going to provide you with a free audit. This can have many different synonyms. For example, here at Website Depot, we usually do this during our free consultation. 

 

No matter what it’s called, it should involve you and an SEO expert going over your site, your strategy, and your business. That’s if you already have SEO or you’ve been trying. If you don’t have an SEO strategy yet, this audit should instead consist of going over what it’ll take to get you to where you want to go. 

 

Tell the SEO expert what your goals are. See how they respond. If they say “we can work towards that, it’ll take some time, but we can get you on the way,” that’s great. However, if they guarantee you quick results, run. They’re just trying to get your money and won’t actually help your business. 

 

Researching and Focusing on Your Keywords 

 

Any SEO strategy has to include keywords. You don’t just want to “guess” at your keywords. You want to know which are the right ones to target. Indeed, this is one of the most helpful universal aspects of SEO services packages. When you work with experts, they can help you to find the keywords that can best help your company grow. 

 

Now, many of those are what you might think – the keywords that most relate to your business, goods/services, etc. However, this can also include some local and smaller keywords that you might not be aware of. Additionally, the experts should be able to help you to find which keywords your competitors aren’t ranking for. 

 

Then, you can go right at those keywords. By doing so, you can overtake your competitors for those words and then, in time, for others. 

 

Be wary of anyone who just has you going at keywords but doesn’t tie them to location. There are unscrupulous SEO companies who will get you to rank for keywords that won’t help your business. Why? Because they’re easier to rank for. 

 

For example, say that you’re a contractor. You run a contracting business, building homes and buildings in the neighborhood. You sign up for a package and you don’t see much in the way of results. When you confront your SEO agency with this, they say: “Hey, you rank for the keyword “general contractor.” 

 

While that may be true, you don’t rank for it in your area. It does you no good to rank for your business to rank for keywords in areas where, frankly, you do no business. On the subject of talking to your SEO agency… 

 

Analysis and Reporting 

 

Another good way to tell if you’re working with the right SEO agency or not: they make it easy to contact them. They want to talk to you. They want you to be involved to the extent that you want to be involved. Look for if your package includes meetings, updates, and the like. 

 

For example, here at Website Depot, most of our clients receive monthly meetings. Others receive meetings more frequently than that, but we meet with most once a month. There, we’ll show you what’s working and we go into what could be improved. Moreover, we tell you how we’ll improve it. 

 

That way, we’re accountable to you. The last thing you want is an SEO agency that ducks or evades accountability.
