What AI Can’t Do For Your Content Creation (That You Can Do Easily)
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... |
Have you been trying to figure out exactly what AI can and can’t do for your company? Does it feel like when you try to use AI for your content, you get something that just, well, isn’t good enough? You aren’t alone. That’s how it works. Perhaps it’ll be different in the future, but, as of right now, AI just isn’t good enough for your clients, your customers, your business, or you. The good news is, there’s plenty that your competitors may rely on AI for that you can do for yourself. Indeed, as someone who provides content as part of a Los Angeles digital marketing company, there’s lots that others may do with AI that I can do for myself. You can, too.
I’ve kept the examples below not-industry specific. That’s because you can use them for practically any industry.
Provide Well-Researched Content
Details matter. That’s true for your business. It’s also true for your content. Details display expertise. Someone who understands the “little” things is someone that understands the “big things,” too. Experts understand their industries, inside and out. Indeed, that’s just one of the many reasons Google ranks “expertise” and “authority” so highly.
You can demonstrate your expertise and your authority in your content. The stronger your content is, the more you’ll show Google and its users you know what you’re talking about.
This is what generative AI text can’t do.
Sure, it may get a few details right here and there. But, throughout the course of a blog, it’s going to get something wrong. It will miss a detail, fail to provide clarity, or just speak in such vague terms that you may not be clear exactly what it’s saying. That’s no way to demonstrate expertise and authority.
What You Should Do Instead
Your own actual research. You know your industry. Instead of asking AI to “write a blog about being an accident injury lawyer,” just write down five facts about your industry. (You don’t have to be a lawyer, obviously.) Just write down a few facts. Then, go into greater detail about why they’re important.
If you find staring at a blank page intimidating, don’t do it. Open a Google Doc and use the “microphone” option, speaking your words into the page. Then, you can edit from there. You’re always going to know better than the AI.
“Brevity is the Soul of Wit” (and Value)
As you may have noticed, AI isn’t good at clarity. Being concise is not its strongest suit, so to speak. If you ask it to write something, it will go on. Sure, it probably won’t go beyond 500 words or so, (for the most part) but, it won’t give you short sentences, either. For those 500 words, it will ramble (to put it nicely).
You’ll, almost invariably, get some lengthy, unfocused series of words. I’ve found it’s easier to think of AI not as “writing” but as “word generating.” Because, that’s really what it does. It generates a lot of words. Writing is nowhere to be found.
I find it analogous to a smart 4th grader who’s trying to get to 500 words in an essay. Sure, they may have done a little bit of research. Perhaps they can string a sentence together. But, at one point or another, they’re going to be flailing. (Fortunately, the 4th grader will not turn in a picture of anyone with 14 fingers or something.)
Yes, sometimes a longer sentence is necessary. There is nothing wrong with having lengthy, effusive sentences. Many times, that’s the best way to express yourself, to state an opinion, to inform, educate, and so forth.
But, that won’t be every sentence. It probably won’t even be a majority of them.
Short sentences read better, for the most part. They read faster. People’s eyes tend to glaze over, so to speak, when they read a sentence the length of a paragraph (or close to it).
That’s not to say that everything has to be monosyllabic, of course. But, it does mean that if you’re going to create content, you want it to be easily consumed by people. In that case, shorter really is better.
Expert Los Angeles Digital Marketing Company
Maybe you’re reading this many years from now, far in the future. Perhaps by then AI has solved all of these issues (and several others). Maybe the AI has perfected the art of writing, elevating it beyond the work of mere mortals. But, mercifully, that’s not the world we live in. AI can’t write well enough for your business.
Indeed, if you were hiring writers, and you read something from the AI, you would continue to look at other candidates.
By following the tips above, you can create the best content for your business. Maybe you can use AI effectively to see what the first draft of an outline could look like, or something similar.
