Do you feel stuck in a rut already in 2025? Does it seem like all of your fresh ideas don’t feel all that fresh already? It’s one thing to “say” you’ll be more creative, it’s something else entirely to cultivate that. It can be all too easy to fall into the same routines. Or, even more challenging, to try new things, new tactics, only to find the same results. The more new methods you try, the more you can find something that works best for you.  Below are a few of the tactics I use when creating for our Los Angeles branding agency

As ever, these are just some of the ways that I work. Even if these don’t work for you, something similar to them might. I never found any of these by doing exactly what someone else told me worked for them. Rather, I found them by trying a bunch of different things and, in time, seeing what worked best.

Seemingly “Irrational” Actions

Sometimes, to “think outside the box,” you need to think outside of your industry. One of my favorite ways to jump start my mind for marketing is to talk to someone outside of marketing. I had a conversation with an actor about marketing, and then told me about an exercise that I’ve found very helpful for creative thinking: call it the “irrational action” exercise.

There are more similarities to marketing and acting than you might think. In acting, as in marketing, you’re trying to change someone’s behavior (at the risk of being overly simplistic). In acting, you want to change the partner and in marketing, you want them to do business with you.

This exercise forces you to think of new ways to do things, ways that may initially seem uncomfortable. Consider ideas that you never would. It doesn’t mean that you have to follow through on them, post them on your company accounts, etc. But, it does mean that you have to stretch your mind in new ways.

This doesn’t mean to be silly, but consider trying to do the opposite of what you’re currently doing. What would the opposite of your company’s tone be? How would the opposite of your brand go? What’s the strangest way you could market your products?

Really think about it. I usually give myself a solid ten to fifteen minutes to do this. I set a timer, too, so as to be disciplined. What you may find is that, while many of your ideas are unusable, there’s at least one idea or two (if not more) that do grab your attention. Sure, they might have to be rewritten, punched up, etc. But, they’re the kind of ideas that you may not be able to think of otherwise. Speaking of doing things the opposite of how you’ve done them before…

Ask: “How Can We Do This in a New Way?”

Here at our Los Angeles branding company, before I was the podcast host, I was just a writer. Then, as video marketing became more prevalent, our boss realized there were more ways I could help our clients.

So often, we’ll be trying to think of what to make podcasts and videos about and I’ll feel stuck. Then, it hits me all over again: “let’s go back to what we have.” I’ve written hundreds (if not thousands, probably thousands) of blogs for this company and our clients. So many of those can serve as the impetus (if not the entire script/structure) for a video or podcast.

We know the content is good because the client approved it. Sure, some of it may be outdated, but this is live performance. The rest of the video content team and I can figure it out from there.

This is a great way of coming up with ideas for many reasons, not the least of which is that it means we’re never starting from a “blank page.” We always have something to draw from. So, this allows us to not just create content quickly but to create quality content quickly.

A Los Angeles Branding Company That Can Help With Your Creativity and More

What you’ve read above is what’s working for me right now. None of this is set in stone. It’s what I’m doing because it’s working. I’m always looking to get better. I never stop exploring and experimenting. When something else works better, I’ll do that.

That’s how you should treat your company’s digital marketing, too. Yes, it’s great to have a strategy that works. But, every strategy, no matter how well-constructed, has to be tweaked eventually. If you want to get the best ROI, that’s inevitable. And, of course, that’s where we can help.
