Unsure How to Start? Do One Thing Well

“Where do I begin with marketing? How do I get started with content?”
Often, clients will ask us questions similar to this.
Also, they’ll usually be one right after the other, too, with no pause between them for us to respond.
That makes sense to me.
If you’ve read any articles about marketing and content, they may give a lot of useful advice. But, they tend to give a lot of it.
A list of “ten things you can do” is, well, ten things.
If you try to do all ten of those things at once, or even one after the other, you’re liable to drive yourself batty. It’s unlikely that you’ll be able to do all of them well enough to be able to offer the quality of content that you want.
Instead, there’s a better way.
Focus on One Thing, then Expand
When a company starts with their social media, they usually have very big ideas.
“We want a large presence on Facebook and Twitter and YouTube and Spotify and Tik Tok and Instagram and…” (Insert long, lengthy list of every social media platform).
These are worthy goals.
Achieving that can do so much for your business.
However, starting with that in mind can be way too much, “biting off more than you can chew.”
It’s too easy to get “burned out” by doing everything you can for each platform.
Instead, focus on one.
Make great content for your Instagram page. Or, focus on videos.
What you’ll probably find (as so many of our clients have) is that you’ll build a following, yes, but you’ll also have plenty of content that you can use elsewhere.
That great Instagram story or photo can be extended out into a video. What was shortened into a tweet would make for a great ten minutes or so podcast.
We’re not saying that you can’t make a Facebook post until you have 300,000 YouTube subscribers or something.
But, instead of trying to climb to the top of every platform all at once, focus on one, then on the others.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with claiming your account on each platform, of course, and posting frequently.
That said, putting all of your focus on one platform and then seeing how that can help the others grow is a solid plan.
The above advice, of course, is not just limited to your social media. It also fits just about every other aspect of your business, too.
How Professionals Can Help
One of the many benefits of working with a group like ours is that we can take care of this kind of thing for you.
While you devote all of your energies to videos or other kinds of posts, we can utilize the other platforms for you. Or, alternatively, you can focus on your business while we do your social media, web design, and more.
Focusing on your strengths and then using those to improve the rest of your business – that’s always good advice.
