Preparing for the Second Wave

In a better world, there wouldn’t be a second wave of COVID-19. Of course, in a better world, there wouldn’t have been a first wave of COVID-19, either. The truth is that the virus is going to be with us for some time.

Hopefully, by the time you read this blog, it’s obsolete. The virus will have been eradicated, and all of us can go back to our lives how they were before. However, that’s probably not going to be the case. So, there are some things that you may want to keep in mind should the second wave worsen during the summer.

Content is King, but Don’t Forget Video

“Content is king” is one of our favorite sayings around here at Website Depot. There are so many different reasons for that: content can help your business reach out to more potential customers, it shows that you have real expertise and value to provide, so on and so forth. I’m not here today to sell you on the idea of having content. Rather, it’s important for you to know that video has risen in a big way.

In the time from the beginning of February 2020 through March, the number of Facebook Live viewers went up by 50%. This is coming from Facebook itself. That doesn’t mean that you all of a sudden have to start putting out several Facebook Live videos (although, if you have some great ideas and it’s feasible for you to do so, doing one every now and then isn’t a bad idea).

But, being aware that more people are watching videos is a great way to reach out to more customers. That’s not to say that you have to do a long, extended Facebook Live video (few, if any people watch for a long period of time, pandemic or not). However, being aware of and utilizing this tool can be a great way to bring even more people into the fold. There are other video options available, too.

“One Billion Hours Worth of Video Every Day”

There are some numbers that, when faced with them, it’s not easy to wrap your mind around. “One billion hours worth of video every day” is such a statistic. However, it’s true. That’s how many YouTube videos users watch every day on average.

Really, when you think about it, that number is even more remarkable because it’s not like YouTube is the only way that people can watch videos. Sure, it’s the most popular, but there are plenty of other places online that folks can see a video. Again, this doesn’t mean that you have to suddenly push most of your budget towards a video production department, nor do you have to paint one wall of your business to be a green screen.

The point of this blog is to show you how important video is. It’s a crucially important tool. However, like everything else, it can’t be the only tool in your toolbox. To make it such is to limit yourself far, far more than you should. Blogs, social media, video, SEO, and other methods: when you have all them all, working in tandem, then your business can grow in any environment. That’s true whether it’s a pandemic, second wave, recession, or anything else.
