Benefits of Podcast Marketing for Your Rehab (or Anything Else)

“Would a podcast really benefit my business?”
“I’m not like, a talker, really. So, I don’t see how a podcast would help.”
Those are some of the questions I’ve been asked as host of a podcast here for Website Depot.
I absolutely understand those questions.
For many business owners, a podcast is something that famous comedians do. It’s something to be listened to in the car, on a journey, that kind of thing.
The truth is that having a podcast or even being on a podcast can be a great boon to your business. You don’t need to have years of broadcast training or even the best technical equipment to make that possible.
“A Human Face” (Even if They Can’t See Your Face)
At our rehab and lawyer SEO marketing company (among many other kinds of clients), we encourage all of our clients to come on at least one podcast.
While it can benefit any business, it can certainly help our rehab facilities quite a bit.
I’ve thought about why that is.
I believe it’s because that’s an industry where it’s not always possible to “show, not tell.”
Like, you can show pictures of people who are struggling with addiction juxtaposed with people who have gotten clean, sober, and happy through treatment.
But, you can’t really show the “day to day” exactly.
Testimonials are, of course, very powerful. But, again, it’s not the same.
That said, a podcast can really put a “human face” on a rehab.
In the past, I’ve had on heads of facilities, counselors, folks from all levels of rehab facilities.
Folks in need can learn more about a facility in ten minutes of a counselor talking than they would in thousands of words of blogs.
That can establish a real, human connection very quickly.
Again, this works for any number of industries. But, it seems especially potent for rehabs.
Plenty of Room to Grow Your Business (and Anyone Else’s)
“Who’s actually going to listen to this thing?”
That’s another question I’m often asked about the podcast.
It’s a valid question.
Our podcast here is growing. That said, we’re not inking closing in on millions of downloads and subscribers any time soon.
But, as with so much else in digital marketing, you don’t need a huge following to be successful.
Rather, you just need some people to be listening.
It’s not about the overall numbers, it’s about conversions, about people reaching out.
A podcast that brings in millions of clicks a month isn’t going to help if those never turn into people buying something.
This article explains it well.
I disagree with some of it (you do not need to have an outline. Have a general idea of what you want to talk about, sure. But, I’ve found some of the very best podcasts come from people discovering something, in real time, during the recording.)
The most important takeaway from that article (for me at least) is that “it’s not too late.”
That’s true no matter what stage you’re at with your business.
Whether you’re just getting off the ground or you’re already established, a podcast really is a new frontier.
