A Step Forward No Matter What

That’s one of our fundamental ideas here at Website Depot: there is always a positive step that you can take. Right now, for your business, there is something you can do. It might not seem that way. You could feel like there’s nothing you can do. Giving in to that, however, can keep you from seeing options that are available right now.

Of course, feeling like there’s nothing you can do is perfectly understandable during a global pandemic. All businesses have been affected, but some have been more negatively impacted than others. Even if all seems hopeless, trying something is always the best course of action. That’s true for businesses in all industries and it’s certainly true for yours.

Tourism

Few industries have been struck as harshly by the pandemic than the tourism industry. After all, it’s one thing to try and drum up travel business, it’s something else to do that in an environment where your governmental agencies are literally saying: “do not travel.” So many tourism campaigns had to be stopped immediately once the pandemic took hold.

That said, people running tourism campaigns couldn’t just throw up their hands and say “well, we have to give up.” They realized that there was no way to just let everything crash. They had to come up with a plan, something, anything, to keep going. Too many people (and indeed, entire regions) were counting on them.

Obviously, tourism was going to take a massive hit during a time like this. But, something had to be done, even if it was just to “stop the bleeding,” so to speak. So, many made an adjustment.

Rise of the “Safecation”

That amazing almost-word is taken from the North Dakota Director of Tourism and Marketing. In a quote she gave to Yahoo, she said: “‘Staycation’ has been part of vacation lingo for a while, but now there’s also the notion of ‘safecations.”

To that end, tourism all over America (and the world) is changing. Instead of highlighting large crowd gatherings, many are showing secluded areas that you and your family can check out. Paying for “virtual tours” is also being pushed and is getting increasingly popular.

Moreover, these tourism companies are showing how you can be safe when you travel. They’re highlighting what people are doing to make travel safer. Showing off ways that social distancing is enforced at popular tourist spots, temperature checks, mask wearing, all that kind of thing – they’re using social media and other forms of branding to let travelers know “hey, if you come here, you’ll be all right.”

That’s the message people are looking for now. Virginia may still be for lovers, what happens in Vegas may still stay in Vegas, but when you go there or anywhere else, you’re going to be OK when you leave, too.

A Step Forward for Your Business

There’s a message in here for your business, no matter what it is. Hopefully, yours is a business that wasn’t hit as hard as tourism. However, if that was the case, then there is probably some kind of pivot that you can make, just as the tourism promoters went from “come here right now” to “we’ll keep you safe.”
